Hello Everyone !!
How’s the life moving? Hope you all are doing well.
As you all know I have started a sewing tutorials channel. Now you can watch the video and follow the method easily. Today I’ll start the video series with the drafting of kurti pattern.
Well drafting a kurti , kameez is same method. As the name says kameez is hindi/ urdu word. Whereas kurti is hindi word for short top. Usually kurti is worn with jeans or leggings. And kameez is with salwar.
In my previous post also I’ve explained about how to stitch kameez , simple kurti. Then what’s the difference between them? Well both are the same. But in this post I’ve added a video and the method of drafting kurti pattern is in Hindi and explained by my mom. And I’ve written the post the way she explains simple kurti drafting pattern on paper.
Watch the video drafting kurti pattern. Hope you will share the video and subscribe the channel.

All the measurements are in INCHES.
Sewing tools required for drafting pattern on paper for kurti/dress

If you are drawing the kurti/ kameez pattern in drawing book use the scale. And if you are making the kurti pattern on fabric use measure tape.
Kurti pattern making
I would recommend you to make all the sewing patterns in jumbo size drawing book available in the market. My mom has drawn the kameez pattern in the book, you can see in the sewing tutorial video. As by doing so you will first draw the pattern in book and then you can draft kurti/ dress pattern on your fabric. And one more benefit will be you will be confident enough to draw kurti/ dress pattern on your own.
Now we have our measurements ready with us. Let’s start drafting kurti pattern. Take the drawing paper which has the length of at least 40″. Place the paper on your table. Or alternatively take your drawing book.
The sewing tutorial video of how to draft a kurti kameez is in Hindi as it is explained by my dear mother. And I have uploaded as it is. But don’t worry I will upload the video in English as well 🙂
Drafting the kurti/ kameez pattern
- 1 – 2 = Full length + 2″
- 1 – 3 = Shoulder/2 + 1/4″
- 1 – 4 = Shoulder/2 – 1/2″
- 4 – 5 = Shoulder/2 – 1″
- 1 – 6 = Scale/6
- 1 – 7 = Scale/3
- C is the mid point of 1 – 7
- 4 – 9 = Bust/4 + 2″
- 1 – 10 = Waist length ( vertical)
- 10 – 11 = Waist /4 + 2″
- 10 – 12 = 6″
- 12 – 13 = Hip round/ 4 + 2″
- 2 – 14 = Hip round/4 + 2″
- 5 – B = 1″
- 5 – A = 1/2 “
Neckline of kurti
- 1 – 6 = Scale/6 This is our neckline width.
- 1 – 7 = Scale/3 This is our neckline length.
- 6 – 7 = neckline length to be taken diagonally.
- C is the mid point of 1 – 7
Mark the point from 1 – 6 and 1 – 7. Draw the desired neckline shape from point 6 to 7. I have drawn it in blue colour. This blue coloured shape is of front neckline.
Draw the desired neckline shape from point 6 to C. . I have drawn it in red colour. This red coloured shape is of back neckline.
Armhole
- 5 – B = 1″
- 5 – A = 1/2 “
Draw the red coloured shape from 3-5-B-9 . This is the front armhole. Draw the armhole shape with the french curve as shown in the video.
Draw the blue coloured shape from 3-A-9 . This is the back armhole. Draw the armhole shape with the french curve as shown in the video of drafting kurti tutorial.
You can see a dotted line from 9 – 11- 13. This is our fitting line. It is 1 inch inside. When we stitch kurti we sew along this line.
Hope you will share the video and subscribe the channel.
Happy Blogging 😉
