Last month was very busy for me as the schools were having summer vacations, which means no schedule time for anything and my son keeps me busy the whole day.So I couldn’t sew any thing and hence there were no posts by me.But still I grabbed off some time and sew a little purse.
I saw a purse in train just for 5 -10 minutes of the girl who was standing at one of the station. From that moment I thought to sew a purse.Of course I had no idea about the pattern but still I sew it.
The measurement given are according to my needs you can vary them accordingly.
The snap of Purse.
I would recommend to first draw the pattern on paper so that you can modify the measurements if needed.
I have divided the tutorial in two parts.
1) The HANDLE part
2) The BODY part (below the HANDLE part).
All the measurement includes seam allowance.
The draft of the body part as below.
Draw diagram as above.I have also taken 2 darts, one from f-g and another from d-e.To make the curves take the 90 degree angle of point c and draw the line and slowly make a curve. The darts also lie on same line. The best way to get both curves equally is to FOLD THE PAPER IN HALF and then cut the curves and make lines for the darts.
The draft of handle part.
A-B =18 cm.
B-C =14 cm.
A-X =3 cm.
G-H =1-1.5 inches.
While cutting the V shapes FOLD THE PAPER IN HALF .
SEWING PART.
REQUIREMENTS.
Fabric for purse : 1 metre or 1.25 metre.
Fusible lining and any other plain fabric (for inner part) 1 metre or 1.25 metre. If your fabric is thick no need for fusible lining.
Handles of your choice either circle or rectangle etc.
BODY PART.
Cut the 2 body part from fabric and lining.Iron the lining.Sew the darts.Take box pleats as shown in the snap below.
Make both body part and pleat them ,sew them taking care that all the DARTS should be aligned properly in a line, dart e-d should be in line with dart e-d of both sides of purse and same for dart f-g..Now keep the right side of the fabric on plain fabric and sew along all the sides leaving gap of 2 inches on down side of plain cloth this gap is to BRING FABRIC INSIDE OUT.If you have only one fabric then no question of leaving gap to bring fabric inside out.If you have any doubts regarding sewing body part ask me I will help you out.
Now your body part is ready.
HANDLE PART.
Cut 2 parts from both the fabric.Keep the right side of the fabric on plain cloth and stitch along all the sides
leaving gap of 2 inches on any long side to BRING FABRIC INSIDE OUT. Stitch on the right side of the fabric this will be your finished stitching line. Your handle are ready now.
The snap below.
Slide the handles in cloth as shown in the snap.
Now sandwich one pleated side of body in long sides of handle cloth and stich them.
Plz.note that the measurement of pleated part and long side of handle part should be same. You can alter the size of pleats to get same measurement. The finished purse will be like this snap.
Hope you will make this purse and yes be sure to share with me your creations.
Happy blogging.
