Hello friends…..
Last month I posted semi-patiala salwar sewing tutorial. Hope you stitched the semi patiala salwar. Today we will learn about full patiala salwar. As discussed earlier this salwar has much more gatherings compared to it’s junior version ๐ and thus it gives a special look to this salwar. The beauty of this patiala salwar can be felt when we walk and the gatherings moves to and fro. That’s something which I love.
Sewing Patiala Salwar
To sew patiala salwar fabric required 3.5 to 4 mtrs. You know I mostly wear patiala salwar. And if I buy party wear salwar kameez fabric the salwar is only and only patiala salwar and sometimes I have to buy another fabric for salwar.
Patiala salwar drafting:

1-2= Length – 5″
2-3=Ankle round/2 +1″ for patiala your ankle round should be small.
4-5=(1-2) – 4″means if your 1-2 is 33″,minus 4=29″
6-7=9″
Patiala salwar cutting:
Double fold the fabric width-wise,let all the 4 selvedges lie on one another and on folded side keep 1-2.Cut the central part,so you have 2 parts keep aside.Cut the kalis, 4-6 will be the ย width of the fabric and 4-5 will be length. You’ll need total 4 kalis. The snap of central part.

After cutting central part fold the remaining fabric as shown and cut the kali .

The single kali snap.

Patiala salwar sewing:
Make the ankle rounds.Take one central part and attach kali on both the sides. The pic.will make it easy to understand. The view of single leg part after joining the kali.

Sew along the crotch line and both the legs part.Salwar ready. Now take big pleats of say around 4″and lie them on one another as we have really a good amount of fabric for pleats. The pleats of one side should face each other with another one side.

Lastly stitch the salwar belt with the pleated part and voila!! salwar ready.

Back view.

For first time sewers of patiala salwar have some patience while pleating cause patiala salwar is a bit bulky to handle.
Do let me know your views…

Hello, You done a fabulous job. What a amazing info. The main reason of popularity of patiala salwar in India because of it stitchness. Great Post. Thanks for sharing.
Kindly provide a full tutorial on how to make pleats of patiyala yours has a very nice fall which I after trying much have not succeeded till yet.
Thanks for such a nice shalwar
Hi Gurmeet, Please let me know where to start Pleates ( mid front , back or side) . Do we have to made pleates on front side only or on both side.
Earlier I made a Patiala salwaar with same cutting instructions I took pleates on both sides. prob with that salwaar is that centre crease of Puncha goest to side instead of being at centre.
Hi Lee…
Pleates should be started from mid front. The entire front circumference should have more pleates and in the back circumference take 2-4 pleates only. Work this out and your issue will be solved.
Thanks Gurmeet. Will do as you suggested.
Please let me know width of 1 – 4 for central part. does the same dimension apply for kids with appx salwaar length 32 “?
For kids the dimensions changes as they can’t wear more pleated salwar so can adjust the measurements as per your need.
Thanks Gurmeet. Please let me know width of 1 -4 for adults. Is it full fabric width after double folding the cloth.
Hi Gurmeet Kaur, here you wrote 4-5 is the whole width of fabric. Is it 4-5 or 4-6? Still i confused. Please give an explanation. Please. My work is in half way. Thats why i ask. Sorry for disturb you. Waiting for your reply
