Patiala salwar was mostly worn by females in Northern India, but now a days we can see all over the world ladies wearing patiala salwar. Patiala salwar has lots of pleats and so its quite loose and comfortable to wear. Patiala Salwar can be worn with different types of kameez, short kurti, long kurti. In bollywood movie JAB WE MET Kareena Kapoor wore it with T-shirt and she changed the trend. And people were now inclined towards patiala salwar. In this tutorial we will first learn semi patiala salwar cutting and then in next tutorial we will learn full patiala salwar.

How to cut semi patiala salwar:
Measurements for semi patiala salwar
- Full Length of patiala salwar 39″
- Mohri / Ankle round 16″
- Salwar belt height 7″
- Salwar belt length 46″
Fabric required for cutting semi patiala salwar 2.5 mtrs.
In this post I’ll show you semi patiala salwar cutting tutorial. The pattern of semi patiala is drawn below. You can draft it first on paper or if you wish you can directly draw it on your fabric also.
Semi patiala salwar drafting :
- 1-2 = Full length of salwar – belt height + 1″ 39-7=32+1″=33″
- 1-4 = Width of cloth
- 2-3 = Mohri/2 + 1″
- 4-5 = 18″ to 22″ as per the fabric
- Join 5-3
Semi patiala salwar belt:
We will make salwar belt from the fabric left in the rectangle 2-3-6-8
- 2-3 belt height +2″= 7+2 = 9″
- 6-8 belt height +2″= 7+2 = 9″
- 2-8 belt length +2″
- 3-6 belt length +2″
Semi patiala salwar kali:
- 5-7 = 18″ to 22″ as per the fabric
- 6-9 = 9″ {CROTCH}
Cutting Semi patiala salwar:
- First fold the fabric length wise.
- Now fold the fabric width wise.
- Lay the fabric.
- Draw 1-2 on folded side
- 1-4 is width {open side}
- Draw the mohri/ ankle round.
- Mark 4-5 and join them.
- Draw 3-6
- Draw 5-7
- Cut 1-2-3-4-5
- Cut 3-5-6-7
- Cut belt from 2-8-3-6
