Let’s see quickly how to mark darts on kameez / kurti. The main purpose of adding the darts to the garment is to enhance the figure of the person. It also gives a nice shape to the bust. For perfect fitting people prefer to add darts to the garment. Suppose you have a top / kurti of large size and you want to make it to medium size. The best way is to add the darts.

Long darts are taken in the back of kameez. If you wish you can add long darts in front also. The burst darts are taken only in front of the kameez / kurti.

How to mark darts in kameez / kurti

Measurement needed for marking darts / tucks on kameez:

1. Chest round = 36″
2. Breast line = The length from shoulder to the fullest bust point. Refer my video on it.

 

Marking the darts / tucks on kameez / kurti

• Draw the kurti pattern on fabric.
• 1 – A = Breast line + half inch
• A-B =Chest round/10 + half inch
• B-C = Draw a straight line. Measure it ( my 4″ here)
• C-D = Draw a straight line with the same measurements as B- C.
• B-C = C-D both should be of same meaurement.
• C-E & C-F = half inch.
• Draw B-F-D-E
• B-H = 1.5″
• A-G = 1.5″
• Draw a straight line from G – I
• Draw a straight line from H – I
• I-J = 1.5″
• I=K = 1.5″
• Draw the side darts shape.
• This completes our kameez darts marking of long darts and side darts.

Marking the armhole darts / tucks on kameez / kurti

• B-L = 1.5 inch
• Draw a diagonal line L-M passing through point 5 of kurti draft above.
• Draw the darts as shown.

2 easy ways to transfer the darts to other side:

1 ) Method

1. Lay the garment.
2. Now touch the point B
3. On the other side you can feel the point and mark the point.
4. Now touch the point H.
5. On the other side you can feel the point mark the point.
6. Draw the dart.
7. Same way for point L.

2 ) Method

1. Lay the garment.
2. Now Pierce with PIN  the point B.
3. On the other side you can see the pin mark the point.
4. Now  Pierce with PIN touch the point H.
5. On the other side you can see the pin mark the point.
6. Draw the dart.
7. Same way for point L.

3.) Method

1. Place a carbon paper below the kurti fabric.
2. Trace the darts.
