There are many types of ladies trousers like straight cut pants, simple ladies pants, cigarette pants, capri pants, yoga pants etc.. to name a few. All vary according to their names. Ladies pants can be teamed with most of the garments, like straight cut pants can be worn with short kurti as well as long kurti. Cigarette pants go best with tops, crop tops, tunics. Cigarette pant cutting :
Measurements required for Cigarette pants cutting:
- Length = 38″ – 2″ of belt = 36″ will be the length for drafting the pants pattern
- Hip round = 40″
- Waist round = 36″
- Thigh round = 22″
- Knee length = 20″
- Knee round = 18″
- Ankle round = 14″
- Belt height = 2″
- In the thigh round and knee round measurement add 2″ seam allowance in it.
How to cut cigarette pants
First we will draft the cigarette pants pattern. You can directly draw it on the fabric or make a draft on paper sheet.
Cigarette pants cutting step by step
- 1 – 2 = Length + 1″
- 1 – 3 = Hip round /4
- 1-4 = (half inch) 1/2 “
- 3 – 5 = (half inch) 1/2 “
- 4 – 5 = Hip round /4
- 4 – 6 = Waist/4 + 2″
- 5- 8 = Thigh round /4
- 7 – 8 = Thigh round /4
- Draw a straight line from 9 – 8-11-10
- 9 – 11 = Knee length
- 11 – 12 = Knee round / 4
- 11 – 13 = Knee round / 4
- 10 – 14 = Ankle round / 4
- 10 – 15 = Ankle round / 4
- 2 – 16 = 2″
- 15 – 17 = 2″
Pants Crotch
- 7 – A = 2″
- Join 6-A.
- A-B = 1″
- Give the shape from 6-B-7 . This is the front crotch.
- 7 – C =2″
- 13-E = 2″
- 15 – F =2″
- 6 – D = 1″ above
- D – 4 = Waist/4 + 2″
- Join D-7.
- 7 – Z – 1″
- Give the shape from D – Z – C. This is the back crotch.
Pants waist belt cutting:
- After stitching both the legs measure the waist.
- Add 2 inch allowance.
- This will be the length for the waist belt.
- Take the width( height ) of the belt 4″ + 1.5″ seam.
- Cut a straight belt from the extra fabric.

2 reasons ho skte hai. Yaa to aap ne aasan ke shape mei jyada curve kar diya hai, ya phir pleats jyada badi le li hai.

I have a doubt in length, Should we mark 36+1″ ie 37″ or just 36″. In the video I saw u marking as 36″ but in website its written as length +1″.
& what about the waist belt..I’m am not an expert in stitching ..pls do clarify this

For length of the pants you have to take your desired length and add 1 inch seam to it. In video I’ve taken 36 with seam. I have updated the post for waist belt. You can also watch the video for waist belt
