Shirts for women are the most versatile apparel according to me. Now there are couple of reasons why I am saying female shirt versatile. Firstly it can be worn with any type of ladies pants, next it can be for formal or casual occasion, next is it has endless variety and the list may go on….
There are many stylish shirts for women like long shirt, short shirts, shirts with long sleeves, short sleeves. Even, shirts for girls too has many variety like denim shirts, checked shirts. Office wear for women mostly has shirts and tops.
Now let’s start how to cut and sew a female shirt. In this post I’ll be showing you ladies shirt cutting pattern and in my next post I’ll post on ladies shirt stitching.

How To Make A Female Shirt Pattern
To make ladies shirt we will need the following measurements.
| LENGTH | 26″ |
| BUST ROUND | 32″ |
| SHOULDER | 14″ |
| NECKLINE | 15″ |
The length of the shirt will be as per your choice. I prefer long shirt as it goes with jeans, straight pants, and patiala salwar too. If you wish you can keep the shirt length less too.
Fabric required for shirts for womens:
You will need 2 meters of fabric. I will be using 15″ readymade collar for the shirt.

Shirt Pattern For Ladies
Below is the diagram of ladies shirt.
Ladies Shirt Pattern Drafting Details
Start drafting the shirt pattern as described below.
Important points for ladies shirt pattern:
- A – B= 2″ only for front shirt draft.
- A – B= 2″ is for the button patti in the front.
- A – 1 is folded side.
- While cutting back part, we will omit the A – B point.
- The back shirt pattern will be from A-1-8-7-5-2-12-A.
- The front shirt pattern will be from B-C-1-8-7-5-2-12-A-B.
- The front neckline will be from 9-10.
- The back neckline will be from 9-11.

How to cut ladies shirt:
- Fold the fabric in half.
- Spread it lengthwise.
- On selvedges side keep the front pattern.
- Cut the front.
- Now for back remove the 2″ extra part from pattern.
- Fold the fabric and place the pattern.
- Folded side of pattern on folded side of fabric.
- Cut the back.
- Cut the sleeves.
- From side left over fabric we will cut shirt collar.
