Whenever we have a social function or any festivities near around, one question always hovers what to wear for that particular function.Everyone wants to look gorgeous, stunning.Mostly now-a-days everyone is wearing Anarakli dress for such functions.
You might be thinking why I have started writing about the dress and not the tutorial.Wait a moment!! I’ll show today Anarkali Dress cutting and sewing.
Basically Anarkali is full flared dress, with 20,22 kalis in all.The kalis either start from shoulder and end upto knee length or still more.Or half bodice is attached to the kalis till the desired length.
First we’ll go with kalis strating from shoulder. The below mentioned draft is of the kali.

Instructions:
1-2= Full length+3″ (FOLDED SIDE OF PAPER)
1-3= Waist length
3-4= 6″
1-5= 1+1/4″
2-8= 3″
Point 6 exactly opposite to 3
Point 7 exactly opposite to 4
Seam allowance is included.
Fabric needed 4 mt.
Lining 2 mt.
Draw the above pattern on paper. And now open it so you will get your ready kali. Now open the paper keep this paper on fabric and the layout is shown below.Follow this layout ONLY for plain fabric. If your fabric is printed take care of the design, keep kali in one single way I mean don’t invert the kali as shown in layout.

If the chest measurement is 30″-32″ take 20 kalis i.e 10 kalis for each back and front respectively;for 34″onwards one can take 22 kalis i.e 11 kalis for each back and front piece.
Sewing:
1) Sew the kalis with both right side facing each other. So you have 10 set of kali for back and 10 set of kali for front.
2) Fold one set in half and trace on it the front part of kurti draft i.e 1-8 on folded side and 3-5-7-9 on open side and cut from this side till point 9 (refer how to stitch simple kurti ). Arm hole/scye will be 3-A-5.
3) Fold the another set in half and trace back draft same as above and here the arm hole/scye will be 3-B-5.
4) CUT THE TRACED PART TILL POINT 9 ONLY AS REST IS THE FLARE OF OUR DEAR ANARKALI.:)
5) Now cut our simple kurta draft on lining also.
6) Attach both the lining with front and back kalis set.
7) Make necklines as required.
8) Attach the front and back.
9) Sew along the seams with lining attached according to your fitting requirements till point 9 only.
10) Below point 9 sew along the seams of kalis.
11) Below point 9 of lining sew the seams.
DON’T ATTACH THE FLARE OF KALIS WITH LINING. KEEP BOTH THE PARTS SEPARATED.
12) Now fold along the bottom line of anarkali which is point 2-8 of our kalis.
If you wish you can fix any border on the bottom line. And you anarkali is ready.

So when are you going to stitch it?? I hope your answer will be RIGHT NOW provided you are having your fabric ready 🙂
Any way keep the paper pattern of kali ready naa..
Happy Blogging.

You can increase the length. Hope you have subscribed our channel.

The lining is with plain.
Mam i stitch net anarkali panel suit…..but border which i select for it is heavy…..i mean it include 3 border due to which its weight increases and when i attach it to net fabric then border does not form any kind of plates ……it will become straight from below and stretch…..
Plz suggest me some idea…
What should i do knw
Dear Sharma,
I would suggest you attach the border on anarkali first with running stitch and that also with double threads, I mean first take stitches with your hand, not by machine. If it seems perfect then you can sew it.
Secondly don’t attach too heavy border as the net fabric might get stretched. If possible make your border lighter by removing any border.
If still problem persists do let me know.
Thnx alot mam for ur guidance

Hello mam,
I just wanted to know that how to sew lining cloth with main cloth….
I am little bit confused in sewing both fabrics together below waist…
Plz explain me the right procedure….
Thnx a lot
Dear Sharma,
After joining all kalis, attach the lining with the kali and make the necklines. After that sew the sides from the arm hole to the waist. Now below the waist don’t join the lining with the anarkali. Join both the things differently.
Now i got it…
Thnk u so much

Dear Monika,
Refer my tutorial of anarkali dress http://www.mythreadcreations.com/2013/09/howtostitchanarkalidress.html.
It will be sewn in three steps first stitch the upper body, then join all the kalis and finally attach the kali to upper body. Hope this helps you out.
Hi Gurmeet,
I now perfectly learned to stitch a sleeveless kurta from your blog but i still cannot attach sleeves properly. pls advise. i am going to make one more suit and want to make full sleeves…. scared to attach sleeves.. 🙁
Dear Amandeep,
Before attaching sleeves make sure you cut the arm hole curves properly. While sewing keep the sleeves below and body of the kurti should be above.
And don’t be scared Be CONFIDENT.
If still problem persists ping me.

What should be the measurements for anarkali having total 12 panels as I have understood for 22 kalis
What’s the chest measurement?
How about the measurements for e pieces starting from e waist and not from shoulder? Thanks!
Refer my post http://mythreadcreations.blogspot.in/2013/09/howtostitchanarkalidress.html
Dear Neeru,
Trace and cut the kali on single fabric only no need to fold the fabric.
Thanku so much, u solved my big problem infact m searching the same thing on so many site and my search ends here.

Hi dear first thank u so much I have 1 confusion that megarments in inches or cm? Plz ans me
Hi,
I’m 5′ 7″ with average built. I’ve order an anarkali suit with top legth of 2.25 mts. Will it be enough for me?
You will need 3.50 mts fabric for anarkali.
Hi Gurmeet,
I got the point. Thanks for your help.
Hi Gurmeet,
Is the measurments of 1-5 and 3-6 same?. What about the measurement of 4-7?
Yes, 1-5 and 3-6 are same msrmnt.
Point 7 lies exactly opposite to Point 4.
Hi Gurmeet,
Thanks for the quick response.
I know that 6-8 is slant line. I wanted to ask you if there is a bent at point 7.
No bent just draw a slant line from 6-7-8.
Hi Gurmeet,
I have just found your blog. Your tutorials are very good and going to help me a lot.
Here in anarkali pattern I’m not able to understand the significance of points 4 and 7. isn’t it a straight line from 6 to 8. Please let me know, that would be a big help for me.
Thanks,
Preeti
Hi Preeti,
You first make a paper draft according to the instructions, point 4 and 7 are needed for waist circumference.
Line 6 to 8 is not straight, it is slant line for the flare of kalis.
